The century-old Sumner Tunnel is undergoing needed upgrades this summer, limiting access in and around the city. In particular, the affected areas are East Boston, South Boston, and the Waterfront. The tunnel lies directly beneath some areas of the North end, as well. Massachusetts Department of Transportation has advised that this busy connector between Logan Airport and downtown Boston will be closed 7 days a week, 24 hours a day from July 5-August 31.

On-demand service can be busy at times; airport-bound guests may want to consider an online-reservation with a pre-scheduled pick-up to provide adequate time to get to or from airport terminals. While it takes less than 20 minutes to travel from Logan Airport directly to Battery Wharf via water taxi, it is recommended guests allow up to an hour for dock-to-terminal service. Shuttle buses between the terminal and the dock run on a loop every 15 minutes.
